Every June the kids show their families what a year of maths and chess looks like — a friendly puzzle relay, a chess simul against the coaches, and a certificate for every player. Snacks provided, proud parents guaranteed.
BCFS Kids Club: two weeknight sessions blending learning and play. Ages 7-12. First session free.
BCFS Kids Club is the youngest of our programs and the most reliable. Two weeknight sessions per week, ages 7-12. Sundays focus on math fundamentals through games and puzzles; Tuesdays are chess: opening principles, tactics, and a friendly weekly ladder. Volunteer parents run snack. Three pillars: maths, chess, friendship. The first two come with a curriculum; the third is on the house.
Number sense, basic algebra, pattern recognition. Through puzzles and quick-fire games — never a worksheet.
Beginners start with opening principles. Intermediate kids run a weekly ladder with reset every term.
Sessions wrap with snack from volunteer parents and 20 minutes of free play. Parents welcome to stay.
Priya Saha leads Kids Club. Former Halifax public-school math teacher; now leads curriculum design and supervises both sessions. She runs the parent volunteer rota and is the first stop if your kid wants to try a session.
